    • Begin the lesson by clapping out the syllables in your name and asking students to do the same with their names.
    • Ask students if they know what a syllable is and allow a few responses.
  2. Introduction (10 minutes):
    • Write the word “syllable” on the board and explain that a syllable is a part of a word that contains one vowel sound.
    • Demonstrate how to clap out the syllables in a few simple words, such as “cat” (1 syllable) and “elephant” (3 syllables).
    • Ask students to clap out the syllables in a few more words as a class.
  3. Guided Practice (15 minutes):
    • Distribute word cards with various words to each student.
    • Instruct students to cut out the word cards and sort them into piles based on the number of syllables.
    • After sorting, have students glue the word cards onto construction paper, labeling each pile with the corresponding number of syllables.
  4. Independent Practice (10 minutes):
    • Hand out a syllable worksheet to each student.
    • Instruct students to read each word and write the number of syllables next to it.
    • Collect the worksheets for assessment.
