Lesson Plan: Ukrainian War

Objectives: • To understand the conflict taking place in the Ukrainian War • To recognize the origins and causes of the conflict • To identify the various stakeholders in the conflict • To generate critical thinking and dialogue among the students on the conflict

Materials: • Map of Ukraine • Research Materials on the Ukrainian War

Anticipatory Set: Start class by asking students to draw a freehand map of Ukraine, noting the different sides of the conflict.

Procedure:

• Begin with a discussion of the basic facts of the Ukrainian War, its origins and its stakeholders. • Have each student individually research one of the countries, non-government organizations or other entities involved in the conflict. • Ask students to share what they found with the rest of the class. • Discuss how and why each of the different entities became involved in the conflict. • Analyze and evaluate the different perspectives of the conflict.

Critical Thinking and Dialogue Questions: • What are the main issues involved in the Ukrainian War? • What actions has each side taken to deal with the conflict? • How has the conflict escalated? • Why has it been difficult to resolve? • How has the geopolitical landscape been impacted by the war? • What solutions could be proposed to effectively manage the conflict? • How would those solutions impact the lives of Ukrainians and the people in the region? • How can the international community aid in the peaceful resolution of the conflict?

Conclusion: Summarize the main points discussed during the lesson. Ask students to provide their own feedback and reflections.
