Objective: Students will demonstrate their understanding of vector transformations by plotting coordinate points and showing that their results match the desired outcome

Materials Needed: -Graph paper -Colored pencils -Calculators

Procedure: 1. Introduce the concept of vector transformations and define what is meant by a vector transformation (explain that a vector transformation is a transformation of a vector by scaling, stretching, rotating, or reflecting a vector in a plane or along a coordinate axis).

  1. Demonstrate the concept by providing a detailed example of one type of vector transformation (for example, divide the class into two groups, and have each group draw a vector on a graph paper. Have one group stretch the vector while the other group shrinks it).

  2. Ask students to complete worksheet problems involving vector transformations (provide students with a worksheet with coordinate points that have been transformed in a variety of ways).

  3. Have students complete their calculations, and then plot their results on the graph (have students color each coordinate point differently with colored pencils).

  4. Discuss the results of the worksheet with the class and check that their answers match the desired outcome (ask students to explain their solutions to the class and ask other students if their solutions are correct).

  5. Conclude the lesson by having students practice more vector transformation problems on their own.

Closure: To conclude the lesson, review the concepts covered in class and ask students to explain and demonstrate different vector transformations using the coordinate points from the worksheet. Have students discuss and compare their results with their peers. Finally, ask students to explain why understanding vector transformations is important.
