Objective: Students will be able to identify the culture of the Yanomami Tribe
Materials Needed: - Powerpoint presentation with images of the Yanomami Tribes people, landscape and homes - Large map of South America - Masking tape
Procedure:

Begin the lesson by showing students a pictures of the Yanomami Tribe (5 minutes)

Ask the students to take a few minutes to think about what they already know about the Yanomami Tribe (5 minutes)

Once the students have had time to think, explain that the Yanomami Tribe is an indigenous group that lives in South America (5 minutes).

Show the students a map of South America and point out where the Yanomami Tribes live (5 minutes).

Place a piece of masking tape on the map to mark the location of the Yanomami Tribe (5 minutes).
- Have the students break into groups of four and ask them to research the following about the Yanomami Tribe (30 minutes):
- What type of shelter do they live in?
- What type of clothing do they typically wear?
- What type of foods do they eat?
- What type of spiritual beliefs do they have?

Have each group present one of the topics they researched to the class (15 minutes).

At the end, review the information the students have learned about the Yanomami Tribe (10 minutes).
- Assign each student to write a short essay summarizing what they have learned about the Yanomami Tribe (20 minutes).
Closure:
Have the students write a few sentences that summarize what they have learned in this lesson plan. (5 minutes)
