Introduction Today we’ll be talking about fractions and decimals. Let’s think about fractions and decimals as pieces of a whole. Together, these pieces make a complete whole either in an object or a quantity of something. So, fractions and decimals can help us when we need to share, divide and compare.
Lesson Outline: - What are fractions? (5 minutes) - What are decimals? (5 minutes) - Comparing fractions and decimals (10 minutes) - Visualizing fractions and decimals (10 minutes) - Learning methods for calculating fractions and decimals (15 minutes)

Assessment The assessment will involve a written task where students apply their knowledge to calculate fractions and decimals and compare them. Depending on the students’ abilities, this task could be completed individually or in small groups.
Differentiation Student with learning disabilities can receive verbal assistance to support their understanding. For advanced students, challenges and puzzles can be used to engage them.
Plenary During the plenary session, ask the class to explain how and why fractions and decimals are used, and how they can be compared. Invite students to give examples of fractions and decimals they know and explain what they represent.
