Lesson Plan: School Objects Vocabulary and Grammar (Have got and Haven’t got)
Objective: - Students will be able to identify and use 6 to 8 common school objects vocabulary words in English. - Students will be able to use the grammar structures “have got” and “haven’t got” to describe possession.
Warm-up Activity: (5 minutes) - Play a game of “Simon Says” using school objects vocabulary. For example, say “Simon says touch your pencil” and students should touch their pencil. This will help activate prior knowledge and engage students in the topic.
Presentation of the Topic Activity: (10 minutes) - Show flashcards or pictures of school objects vocabulary words (e.g., pencil, book, ruler, eraser, backpack, notebook, etc.). - Pronounce each word clearly and have students repeat after you. - Use the words in sentences to provide context and meaning.
Practice Activities: (15 minutes) 1. Matching Activity: - Distribute a worksheet with pictures of school objects and their corresponding names in English. - Students should match the pictures with the correct words. - Worksheet resource: https://www.eslprintables.com/vocabulary_worksheets/school/school_objects/
- Fill in the Blanks: - Provide a worksheet with sentences missing the school objects vocabulary words. - Students should fill in the blanks with the correct words. - Worksheet resource: https://www.liveworksheets.com/worksheets/en/English_as_a_Second_Language_(ESL)/School_objects/School_objects_oi1002xj
Production or Reinforcement Activity: (15 minutes) - Divide students into pairs or small groups. - Give each group a set of picture cards representing school objects. - Students should take turns describing the objects using “have got” and “haven’t got” to their partners, who must guess the object. - Encourage students to use complete sentences, e.g., “I have got a pencil. I haven’t got a ruler.”
Rounding off Activity: (10 minutes) - Play a game of “Charades” using school objects vocabulary. - One student acts out a school object without speaking, while the others guess what it is. - This activity reinforces vocabulary and encourages students to use non-verbal communication.
Homework Activities: 1. Vocabulary Practice: - Assign students to create flashcards with school objects vocabulary words. - They should write the English word on one side and the Spanish translation on the other. - Students can review the flashcards daily to reinforce their learning.
- Grammar Practice: - Provide a worksheet with sentences where students need to complete the sentences using “have got” or “haven’t got”. - Worksheet resource: https://www.liveworksheets.com/worksheets/en/English_as_a_Second_Language_(ESL)/Have_got/Have_got_oi1002xj
