Objective:

To help a 1st grader learn basic math concepts with a fun and engaging Harry Potter themed game.

Materials:

-Large Number Dice or regular dice -Pen and paper -Harry Potter themed game pieces -Harry Potter printables (activity sheets, coloring pages, etc.)

Instructions:

1. Explain the game to the 1st grader and have them choose their own Harry Potter-themed game piece.

2. Roll the dice and add up the numbers, then total them and write it down on a piece of paper.

3. For every roll, ask the first grader to solve a Harry Potter-themed math problem (e.g. What’s 5 plus 4? Or How many letters are in ‘Hogwarts’?)

4. The first person to reach the total points without going over, wins the game.

5. To add an even bigger challenge, switch it up by rolling the dice and having the player subtract the numbers instead.

6. After the game is over, encourage the first grader to complete some Harry Potter-themed printables or activities.
