Title: “Halloween en Français”

Objective: To introduce grade 2 students to French Halloween vocabulary through movement-based activities.

Materials: - Flashcards or pictures of Halloween-related items (e.g., pumpkin, witch, ghost, bat, etc.) - Music player or device - Open space for movement activities

Lesson Plan:

  1. Warm-up (5 minutes):
    • Begin the lesson by playing some Halloween-themed music.
    • Encourage students to move around the room freely, pretending to be different Halloween characters (e.g., ghosts, witches, bats).
    • After a minute or two, pause the music and ask students to freeze in their current Halloween character pose.
  2. Vocabulary Introduction (10 minutes):
    • Show flashcards or pictures of Halloween-related items one by one.
    • Pronounce the French word for each item and have students repeat after you.
    • Repeat the process a few times, gradually increasing the speed of presentation to make it more challenging.
  3. Vocabulary Practice (15 minutes):
    • Divide the class into small groups or pairs.
    • Give each group a set of flashcards or pictures.
    • Call out a Halloween vocabulary word in French, and students must find and hold up the corresponding flashcard or picture.
    • Encourage students to say the word out loud as they find the correct card.
    • Repeat the activity with different words, allowing different students to call out the words.
  4. Halloween Charades (15 minutes):
    • Explain that students will now play a game of Halloween charades.
    • Divide the class into two teams.
    • Each team takes turns sending one student to act out a Halloween-related word or phrase in French, using only gestures and movements.
    • The rest of the team must guess the word or phrase in French.
    • The team that guesses correctly earns a point.
    • Continue playing until all students have had a chance to act out a word or phrase.
  5. Cool-down (5 minutes):
    • Play some calming music and have students sit down in a circle.
    • Ask students to share their favorite French Halloween word or phrase they learned today.
    • Encourage students to use the word or phrase in a sentence or describe what it means.
    • Thank the students for their participation and enthusiasm.

Extension Activity: - Provide students with Halloween-themed coloring sheets or worksheets that include the French vocabulary words they learned. They can color the pictures and write the corresponding French words next to them.

Note: It is important to adapt the lesson plan to the specific needs and abilities of the grade 2 students.
