Subject: French

Duration: 4-6 weeks

Project Description: In this project-based learning (PBL) unit, students will explore various extra-curricular activities and develop their French language skills while discovering and pursuing their passions. Through research, collaboration, and presentation, students will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of extra-curricular activities and how they can contribute to personal growth and well-being.

Project Goals: 1. Develop French language skills, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening. 2. Explore different extra-curricular activities and their benefits. 3. Encourage students to pursue their passions and interests. 4. Foster collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. 5. Enhance presentation and public speaking abilities.

Project Tasks:

  1. Brainstorming and Interest Survey (1-2 days):
    • Engage students in a class discussion about extra-curricular activities.
    • Distribute an interest survey to identify students’ passions and preferences.
    • Discuss the importance of pursuing one’s interests outside of the classroom.
  2. Research and Exploration (5-7 days):
    • Divide students into small groups based on their interests.
    • Assign each group a specific extra-curricular activity to research (e.g., sports, arts, music, clubs, etc.).
    • Provide resources (books, websites, videos) for students to gather information in French.
    • Encourage students to interview individuals involved in their chosen activities (if possible).
  3. Presentation Preparation (3-4 days):
    • In their groups, students will create a presentation in French about their chosen activity.
    • Presentations should include information about the activity, its benefits, and personal experiences.
    • Encourage the use of visuals, videos, and props to enhance the presentations.
  4. Presentation Day (2-3 days):
    • Each group will present their findings to the class in French.
    • Encourage students to ask questions and engage in discussions after each presentation.
    • Provide feedback and evaluate presentations based on content, language proficiency, and presentation skills.
  5. Reflection and Action Plan (1-2 days):
    • After all presentations, facilitate a class discussion about the importance of extra-curricular activities.
    • Ask students to reflect on their own interests and passions.
    • Have students create an action plan outlining how they will pursue their chosen activity or explore new ones.

Assessment: - Group presentations (content, language proficiency, presentation skills) - Participation in class discussions and activities - Completion of the action plan

Note: Throughout the project, provide scaffolding and support for students with varying language abilities. Encourage peer collaboration and provide opportunities for students to practice their French language skills in a supportive environment.
