In a rural farm community, a farmer owns 4 rectangular shaped fields. He wants to fence off 3 of the fields so that he can graze his livestock.

The diagram below shows the farmer’s 4 rectangular shaped fields.

Rectangular Farm Fields

The perimeter of the 3 rectangular fields the farmer needs to be fenced off is:

P = 2(l + w)

where l is the length of the field, and w is the width of the field.

Calculate the total length of fencing the farmer needs to fence off the 3 fields.

Answer: The total length of fencing the farmer needs to fence off the 3 fields is (60 + 30 + 30) + (60 + 30 + 20) + (60 + 30 + 30) = 210 meters.
