Project Title: “Family Portraits: Celebrating Diversity and Unity”
Project Overview: The “Family Portraits” project aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for the diverse family structures, values, traditions, struggles, advantages, and functions within our classroom community. Students will have the opportunity to interview a family member of their choice, gaining insights into their family’s unique dynamics and experiences. By sharing their findings through presentations, students will celebrate the rich tapestry of family structures and promote empathy, respect, and inclusivity.
Project Objectives: 1. Explore and understand the diverse family structures, values, traditions, struggles, advantages, and functions within our classroom community. 2. Develop interviewing skills and techniques to gather meaningful information from family members. 3. Analyze and reflect on the significance of family structures and their impact on individuals and society. 4. Foster empathy, respect, and appreciation for different family structures and experiences. 5. Enhance presentation skills and effectively communicate findings to the class.
Project Steps:

Introduction and Discussion (Classroom) a. Facilitate a class discussion on the importance of family structures, values, and traditions. b. Encourage students to share their own family experiences, emphasizing the diversity within the classroom.

Interview Preparation (Homework) a. Instruct students to choose a family member they would like to interview. b. Provide a list of interview questions related to family structure, values, traditions, struggles, advantages, and functions. c. Guide students on conducting respectful and meaningful interviews.

Interview (Outside Classroom) a. Students conduct interviews with their chosen family members, either in person, over the phone, or via video call. b. Encourage students to record the interview (with permission) to ensure accurate information and facilitate the creation of presentations.

Presentation Creation (Classroom/Homework) a. Instruct students to organize the information gathered from the interview into a coherent presentation. b. Encourage creativity in the presentation format (e.g., PowerPoint, poster, video, spoken word, etc.). c. Remind students to respect the privacy and confidentiality of their family members while sharing their stories.
