Materials

  • Word list on paper or whiteboard
  • Whiteboard markers

Activity

  1. Choose several words from the list.

  2. Brainstorm syllables aloud with the students. Encourage discussion around breaking the word down into syllables.

  3. Divide the word into syllables and have students practice pronouncing each syllable separately.

  4. For each syllable, have students write out the individual letters as they sound. Markers can be used for students to write on the whiteboard or large paper.

  5. Have students step up to the whiteboard to correct any errors and to practice spelling the entire word.

  6. Encourage students to verbalize each letter as they write it.

  7. Give students the opportunity to practise spelling the same word multiple times.
