Materials: - Whiteboard or chart paper - Markers - Subtraction worksheets (differentiated for various levels) - Pencils - Timer or clock

Introduction (5 minutes): 1. Begin the lesson by reviewing the concept of subtraction and the written method. 2. Write a simple subtraction problem on the board, such as 345 − 123, and solve it step by step using the written method. 3. Ask students to share their understanding of the written method and its purpose.

Main Activity (35 minutes): 1. Divide the class into three groups based on their ability levels (high, medium, low). 2. Provide each group with a differentiated worksheet that suits their level. - High-level: Subtraction problems with regrouping (e.g., 567 − 234) - Medium-level: Subtraction problems without regrouping (e.g., 456 − 123) - Low-level: Subtraction problems with borrowing (e.g., 345 − 267) 3. Instruct students to solve the problems on their worksheets using the written method. 4. Circulate the classroom, providing support and guidance to students as needed. 5. Set a timer for 20 minutes and encourage students to work at their own pace. 6. After 20 minutes, ask students to exchange their worksheets with a partner from a different group. 7. Students should review their partner’s work and provide feedback on any errors or improvements. 8. Allow students to correct their own work based on the feedback received. 9. Repeat steps 6-8 for a second round, ensuring that each student has reviewed two different worksheets.

Plenary (10 minutes): 1. Gather the class back together and review the steps of the written method for subtraction. 2. Ask students to share any challenges they faced during the activity and how they overcame them. 3. Select a few students to present their corrected worksheets and explain their thought process. 4. Summarize the lesson by emphasizing the importance of the written method for solving complex subtraction problems. 5. Provide additional practice problems for students to solve independently or as homework.
