Chapter 1: Lucy Looks into a Wardrobe In the first chapter of “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe,” we meet four siblings named Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy. They are sent to live in the countryside during World War II. While exploring their new home, Lucy discovers a magical wardrobe in an empty room. Curiosity gets the better of her, and she steps inside the wardrobe, finding herself in a snowy forest called Narnia. There, she meets a faun named Mr. Tumnus, who tells her about the White Witch who has cursed Narnia with eternal winter.
Chapter 2: What Lucy Found There In this chapter, Lucy returns from Narnia and excitedly tells her siblings about her adventure. However, they don’t believe her and think she is making it up. Edmund, the youngest brother, is particularly mean to Lucy and teases her about her imaginary world. Lucy is disappointed that her siblings don’t believe her, but she remains determined to prove Narnia’s existence.
Chapter 3: Edmund and the Wardrobe In this chapter, Edmund follows Lucy into the wardrobe and also finds himself in Narnia. He meets the White Witch, who offers him enchanted Turkish Delight and promises him power and a kingdom if he brings his siblings to her. Edmund, tempted by the Witch’s promises, agrees to betray his family. When he returns to the real world, he lies to his siblings about his adventure in Narnia.
Chapter 4: Turkish Delight Lucy is still upset that her siblings don’t believe her, but she is determined to prove Narnia’s existence. One day, while playing hide-and-seek, Lucy hides in the wardrobe and finds herself back in Narnia. She reunites with Mr. Tumnus, who is devastated to learn that Edmund has met the White Witch. Mr. Tumnus explains that the Witch is evil and has made it always winter but never Christmas in Narnia. Lucy and Mr. Tumnus decide to go to the Professor to seek help.
Chapter 5: Back on This Side of the Door In this chapter, the four siblings are sent to stay with the Professor after Edmund gets into trouble at school. While exploring the Professor’s house, the children discover that the wardrobe is just an ordinary wardrobe and not a magical portal to Narnia. They start doubting Lucy’s story, thinking she had made it all up. However, the Professor surprises them by suggesting that Lucy might be telling the truth. He explains that just because something is not real in our world doesn’t mean it isn’t real in another world. This gives the children hope that Narnia might indeed exist.
