In chapter 3 of Holes, we learn about the main character, Stanley Yelnats, and his family’s curse. Stanley is sent to Camp Green Lake, a juvenile detention center, in chapter 4. At the camp, the boys are forced to dig holes every day. In chapter 5, Stanley makes friends with a boy named Zero, who is illiterate. In chapter 6, Stanley teaches Zero how to read and write. In chapter 7, Stanley finds a lipstick tube with the initials KB on it while digging a hole. He thinks it might be connected to the missing treasure that the boys are searching for.
