• The owl flies around the woods, eventually finding what he believes is a dark cave. • The owl begins to panic and contemplates fleeing to the safety of his tree. • However, he is stopped by an unexpected guest; a kindly old man who introduces himself as Plop. • Plop helps the owl to think positively about the darkness and teaches him the importance of being brave. • Plop encourages the owl to try and master his fear of the dark instead of allowing it to master him.
In Chapter 2 of the Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark, Plop, an old man, teaches the Owl the importance of being brave by helping him confront his fear of the dark. After the Owl finds a dark cave, he begins to panic and contemplates fleeing back to the safety of his tree. However, Plop arrives and encourages the Owl to face his fears by telling him, “Fear is only your feeling. You have real power. It’s your choices that show you who you really are.” Plop helps the Owl to understand that it’s ok to be scared but it’s important to choose not to be cowed by fear.
