Course Title: AP Literature and Composition
Course Description: AP Literature and Composition is a college-level course designed to develop students’ critical reading, writing, and analytical skills. Through the study of various literary genres, students will explore and analyze complex texts, engage in thoughtful discussions, and develop their own writing style. This course aims to prepare students for the AP Literature and Composition exam, as well as equip them with the necessary skills for success in college-level English courses.
Course Objectives: 1. Develop advanced reading comprehension skills through the analysis of complex literary texts. 2. Enhance critical thinking and analytical skills through the interpretation and evaluation of literary works. 3. Improve writing skills by composing well-structured and coherent essays. 4. Unit 1: Introduction to Literary Analysis - Understanding literary elements and techniques - Close reading and annotation strategies - Analyzing poetry: form, structure, and meaning
Unit 2: Fiction - Elements of fiction: plot, character, setting, and theme - Analysis of short stories and novels - Exploring different narrative techniques
Unit 3: Drama - Understanding the structure and conventions of plays - Analyzing tragedy, comedy, and other dramatic genres - Studying the works of renowned playwrights
Unit 4: Poetry - Analyzing various forms of poetry: sonnets, odes, free verse, etc. - Examining poetic devices and their effects - Interpreting and comparing poems from different time periods
Unit 5: Non-Fiction and Essays - Analyzing essays, speeches, and other non-fiction texts - Evaluating rhetorical strategies and persuasive techniques - Developing effective argumentative writing skills
