Topic Plan: Heat Transfer

Desired Outcome: By the end of the sub-strand, the learner should be able to: a) demonstrate the transfer of heat in liquids and gases. b) identify the applications of convection in day-to-day life. c) demonstrate heat transfer by radiation. d) identify applications of radiation in day-to-day life. e) develop an interest in finding out more about convection and radiation.

Suitable for Fourth Level (Grade 8)

Lesson 1: Introduction to Heat Transfer Objective: Introduce the concept of heat transfer and its importance in everyday life.

Lesson 2: Conduction in Solids Objective: Understand the process of heat transfer through conduction in solids and its practical applications.

Lesson 3: Convection in Liquids Objective: Demonstrate the transfer of heat through convection in liquids and identify its applications in day-to-day life.

Lesson 4: Convection in Gases Objective: Explore the transfer of heat through convection in gases and its significance in various scenarios.

Lesson 5: Applications of Convection Objective: Identify and analyze real-life examples where convection plays a crucial role in heat transfer.

Lesson 6: Radiation and its Properties Objective: Introduce the concept of heat transfer through radiation and understand its properties.

Lesson 7: Applications of Radiation Objective: Identify and discuss the applications of radiation in day-to-day life, including its use in technology and medicine.

Lesson 8: Review and Further Exploration Objective: Review the concepts of convection and radiation, and encourage students to explore further on their own, fostering curiosity and interest in the subject.

Note: Each lesson should include a combination of theoretical explanations, demonstrations, hands-on activities, and discussions to engage students and enhance their understanding of heat transfer.
