Topic Plan: Technologies - Craft, Design, Engineering and Graphics
Desired Outcome: I can recognise basic properties and uses for a variety of materials and can discuss which ones are most suitable for a given task.
Focus: Pencil Cases
Week 1: Introduction to Materials - Introduction to different materials used in pencil cases (e.g. fabric, leather, plastic, metal) - Discussion on the properties of each material (e.g. durability, flexibility, water resistance) - Group activity: Sorting materials based on their properties
Week 2: Material Selection - Discussion on the importance of selecting the right material for a given task - Group activity: Designing a pencil case and selecting the most suitable material based on its properties
Week 3: Designing and Planning - Introduction to the design process (e.g. brainstorming, sketching, prototyping) - Group activity: Brainstorming and sketching ideas for a pencil case design
Week 4: Engineering and Graphics - Introduction to engineering and graphics concepts (e.g. measurements, scale, technical drawings) - Group activity: Creating technical drawings of the pencil case design
Week 5: Prototyping and Testing - Introduction to prototyping and testing - Group activity: Creating a prototype of the pencil case design using the selected material and testing its functionality
Week 6: Reflection and Evaluation - Reflection on the design process and material selection - Group activity: Evaluating the pencil case design and discussing how the material selection impacted its functionality
Assessment: - Group participation and engagement in activities - Completion of technical drawings and prototype - Reflection and evaluation of the design process and material selection
