Unit Title: Made in Scotland

Setting: Primary 4

Objectives: • Learn about famous inventions from Scotland • Develop a greater appreciation for Scottish music, art, and poetry • Develop greater creativity and critical thinking skills

Day 1: Activity: Introducing inventions from Scotland Materials: Scotland inventors and inventions poster Description: Students will be given a Scotland inventors and inventions poster to view. The teacher will go through and explain the different inventions, who created them and the dates they were invented. The teacher should also encourage the students to ask questions and discuss the poster.

Day 2: Activity: Explore Scottish Music Materials: Recordings of traditional Scottish music Description: Students will be given the opportunity to listen to and explore recording of traditional Scottish music. Students will be asked to write down the instruments being played, the tempo and rhythms, and any emotions they feel while listening.

Day 3: Activity: Create Scottish Art Materials: Various art supplies Description: Students will be asked to create their own Scottish art pieces. The teacher should encourage the students to be creative, to think outside the box, and to consider the colors and symbols used in Scottish culture.

Day 4: Activity: Create a Poem about Scotland Materials: Paper, writing supplies Description: Students will be given the chance to create their own poem about Scotland. The teacher should encourage students to use the colors, symbols, music, inventions and art explored during this unit.

Day 5: Activity: Present Findings Materials: Presentation slides from previous days’ activities Description: During the fifth and final day of the unit, students will present the observations and findings they have gathered from each activity. The teacher should discuss the overall findings of the unit, the different aspects of Scotland, and thank the students for their hard work and enthusiasm.
