Activity Design: Heroes Park Project

Objective: To create a Heroes Park inside the public school campus to honor and celebrate Filipino heroes, promoting patriotism and nationalism among Grade 9 students.

Materials Needed: 1. Poster boards 2. Markers, colored pencils, and crayons 3. Construction paper 4. Scissors and glue 5. Magazines or newspapers 6. Digital devices (optional) 7. Camera or smartphone (optional)

Duration: 2-3 weeks (depending on the availability of resources and time)

Activity 1: Research and Presentation (2 days) 1. Divide the students into small groups. 2. Assign each group a Filipino hero to research. 3. Provide resources such as books, magazines, and online materials for research. 4. Instruct the students to gather information about their assigned hero’s life, achievements, and contributions to the country. 5. Encourage them to include pictures or illustrations related to their hero. 6. Each group will create a presentation using poster boards or digital devices. 7. Allocate time for each group to present their findings to the class.

Activity 2: Designing the Heroes Park (3 days) 1. Discuss the importance of a Heroes Park and its significance in promoting patriotism. 2. Divide the students into groups again. 3. Instruct each group to design a section of the Heroes Park. 4. Provide construction paper, scissors, and glue for creating models or dioramas. 5. Encourage creativity and originality in designing the park. 6. Each group should present their design to the class, explaining the elements they included and their symbolism.

Activity 3: Creating Hero Profiles (3 days) 1. Instruct each student to choose a Filipino hero they admire. 2. Provide materials such as construction paper, markers, and magazines. 3. Ask the students to create a hero profile by making a collage or drawing of their chosen hero. 4. They should include the hero’s name, picture, birthdate, achievements, and notable quotes. 5. Encourage them to decorate their hero profiles creatively. 6. Display the hero profiles in a designated area of the school campus.

Activity 4: Heroes Park Exhibition (1 week) 1. Allocate a specific area in the school campus for the Heroes Park. 2. Instruct the students to bring their hero profiles and any other materials they created for the project. 3. Organize an exhibition where students can showcase their work to the entire school community. 4. Encourage students to explain their hero profiles and the significance of their chosen heroes to visitors. 5. Take pictures or videos of the exhibition for documentation and future reference.

Assessment: 1. Evaluate the students’ research and presentation skills based on the content, organization, and delivery of their presentations. 2. Assess the creativity and effort put into designing the Heroes Park sections. 3. Evaluate the hero profiles based on the accuracy of information, creativity, and presentation. 4. Observe students’ participation and engagement during the exhibition.
