Week 1-2: Introduction to Travel Vocabulary and Basic Expressions
Objective: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to use basic travel vocabulary and expressions related to greetings, asking for directions, ordering food and drinks, shopping for essentials, and numbers, dates, and time.
Materials: - Whiteboard or flipchart - Markers - Handouts with travel vocabulary and expressions - Flashcards with pictures related to travel vocabulary - Audio recordings or videos for listening practice
Lesson Plan:
Day 1: Greetings and Introductions
- Warm-up (5 minutes):
- Greet the students and ask them how they are doing.
- Review basic greetings and responses (e.g., Hello, Hi, How are you?, I’m fine, thank you, etc.).
- Practice greetings in pairs or small groups.
- Introduction to Travel Vocabulary (15 minutes):
- Present and explain travel-related vocabulary such as airport, hotel, passport, ticket, etc.
- Use flashcards or pictures to illustrate the vocabulary.
- Practice pronunciation and drilling of the new words.
- Role-play Activity (15 minutes):
- Divide the students into pairs.
- Provide a scenario where they meet someone at the airport or hotel.
- Students take turns introducing themselves and practicing greetings and basic introductions.
- Listening Practice (10 minutes):
- Play an audio recording or video with dialogues related to greetings and introductions.
- Students listen and try to identify the phrases they have learned.
- Discuss the answers as a class.
Day 2: Asking for Directions
- Warm-up (5 minutes):
- Review the vocabulary from the previous lesson.
- Ask students if they have ever been lost in a new place and how they asked for directions.
- Introduction to Asking for Directions Vocabulary (15 minutes):
- Present and explain vocabulary related to asking for directions, such as street, intersection, map, etc.
- Use flashcards or pictures to illustrate the vocabulary.
- Practice pronunciation and drilling of the new words.
- Role-play Activity (15 minutes):
- Divide the students into pairs.
- Provide a scenario where one student is lost and the other gives directions.
- Students take turns practicing asking for and giving directions.
- Listening Practice (10 minutes):
- Play an audio recording or video with dialogues related to asking for directions.
- Students listen and try to identify the phrases they have learned.
- Discuss the answers as a class.
Day 3: Ordering Food and Drinks
- Warm-up (5 minutes):
- Review the vocabulary from the previous lesson.
- Ask students about their favorite types of food and drinks.
- Introduction to Ordering Food and Drinks Vocabulary (15 minutes):
- Present and explain vocabulary related to ordering food and drinks, such as menu, waiter, bill, etc.
- Use flashcards or pictures to illustrate the vocabulary.
- Practice pronunciation and drilling of the new words.
- Role-play Activity (15 minutes):
- Divide the students into pairs.
- Provide a scenario where one student is a customer and the other is a waiter.
- Students take turns practicing ordering food and drinks.
- Listening Practice (10 minutes):
- Play an audio recording or video with dialogues related to ordering food and drinks.
- Students listen and try to identify the phrases they have learned.
- Discuss the answers as a class.
Day 4: Shopping for Essentials
- Warm-up (5 minutes):
- Review the vocabulary from the previous lesson.
- Ask students about their favorite places to shop.
- Introduction to Shopping for Essentials Vocabulary (15 minutes):
- Present and explain vocabulary related to shopping for essentials, such as supermarket, cash, price, etc.
- Use flashcards or pictures to illustrate the vocabulary.
- Practice pronunciation and drilling of the new words.
- Role-play Activity (15 minutes):
- Divide the students into pairs.
- Provide a scenario where one student is a customer and the other is a shopkeeper.
- Students take turns practicing shopping for essentials.
- Listening Practice (10 minutes):
- Play an audio recording or video with dialogues related to shopping for essentials.
- Students listen and try to identify the phrases they have learned.
- Discuss the answers as a class.
Day 5: Numbers, Dates, and Time
- Warm-up (5 minutes):
- Review the vocabulary from the previous lesson.
- Ask students about their favorite numbers and how they tell the time.
- Introduction to Numbers, Dates, and Time Vocabulary (15 minutes):
- Present and explain vocabulary related to numbers, dates, and time, such as one, ten, Monday, January, etc.
- Use flashcards or pictures to illustrate the vocabulary.
- Practice pronunciation and drilling of the new words.
- Role-play Activity (15 minutes):
- Divide the students into pairs.
- Provide a scenario where one student asks for the time or date, and the other responds.
- Students take turns practicing numbers, dates, and time expressions.
- Listening Practice (10 minutes):
- Play an audio recording or video with dialogues related to numbers, dates, and time.
- Students listen and try to identify the phrases they have learned.
- Discuss the answers as a class.
Note: Throughout the week, encourage students to practice the vocabulary and expressions in pairs or small groups. Provide opportunities for them to use the language in real-life situations, such as ordering food in a role-play restaurant or asking for directions in a simulated city map activity.
