Materials:
- Two wooden boards
- Two identical blocks of wood
- Dowel rod
- Hammer
Instructions:
-
Place the two wooden boards on the ground side by side, approximately one foot apart.
-
Place one block of wood in the middle of each board. Position them such that the blocks are facing each other.
-
Insert the dowel rod through the top of one block, and into the bottom of the other block.
-
Hammer the dowel rod into the two blocks, securing them in place.
-
Hold one of the blocks, so that the dowel rod is perpendicular to the ground, maintaining the same level of force on each block.
-
Gently swing the dowel rod in an arc, maintaining your force on each block.
-
Observe how the force on both blocks remains the same throughout the arc, demonstrating the conservation of momentum.
