Introduction: In this lesson, we will be discussing the topic of intellectual property law, specifically patents. As a patent specialist and intern lawyer, this topic is likely familiar to you. However, we will be exploring it in more depth and discussing some current events related to patents. We will also be incorporating your interests in football and politics into the lesson.
Lesson Outline: 1. Introduction to patents and intellectual property law 2. Current events related to patents (e.g. recent patent disputes, changes in patent laws) 3. Discussion of the intersection of patents and football (e.g. patenting sports equipment, patenting game strategies) 4. Discussion of the intersection of patents and politics (e.g. patent policies in different countries, the role of patents in innovation) 5. Assessment activity
Questioning: 1. What is a patent and how does it differ from other forms of intellectual property? 2. Can you think of any recent patent disputes that have been in the news? 3. How do patents intersect with the world of football? 4. How do patents intersect with politics and policy-making? 5. How do patents impact innovation and technological progress?
Assessment: For the assessment activity, you will be given a case study related to patents and asked to analyze it from a legal perspective. You will need to identify the key legal issues at play, discuss the relevant laws and regulations, and propose a course of action. This will allow you to apply your knowledge of patent law in a practical setting.
Differentiation: If you are more interested in football, we can spend more time discussing the intersection of patents and sports. If you are more interested in politics, we can spend more time discussing the role of patents in policy-making and innovation. Additionally, if you prefer to learn through visual aids, we can incorporate more videos and diagrams into the lesson.
Plenary: To wrap up the lesson, we will have a group discussion about the key takeaways from the lesson. We will also discuss any remaining questions or areas of interest that you may have.
