Introduction: In this lesson, we will be discussing the topic of intellectual property law, specifically patents. As a patent specialist and intern lawyer, this topic is likely familiar to you. However, we will be exploring it in more depth and discussing some current events related to patents. We will also be incorporating your interests in football and politics into the lesson.

Lesson Outline: 1. Introduction to patents and intellectual property law 2. Current events related to patents (e.g. recent patent disputes, changes in patent laws) 3. Discussion of the intersection of patents and football (e.g. patenting sports equipment, patenting game strategies) 4. Discussion of the intersection of patents and politics (e.g. patent policies in different countries, the role of patents in economic development) 5. Assessment of understanding through a group discussion and worksheet activity

Questioning: 1. What is a patent and how does it differ from other forms of intellectual property? 2. Can you think of any recent patent disputes that have been in the news? 3. How do patents intersect with the world of football? 4. How do patent policies differ between countries and what impact does this have on innovation? 5. How do patents contribute to economic development?

Assessment: Students will participate in a group discussion where they will be asked to share their thoughts on the topics covered in the lesson. They will also complete a worksheet activity where they will be asked to apply their understanding of patents to a hypothetical scenario.

Differentiation: For students who may need additional support, the teacher can provide additional resources such as simplified readings or visual aids. For students who may need a challenge, the teacher can provide additional research opportunities or ask them to present on a specific topic related to patents.

Plenary: To conclude the lesson, students will be asked to share one thing they learned about patents that they did not know before. The teacher will also provide feedback on the group discussion and worksheet activity.
