Title: “Space Trivia Challenge”
Objective: To engage teenagers in a fun and interactive warm-up activity that enhances their knowledge about astronauts and space.
Materials needed: - Whiteboard or flipchart - Markers - Space-related trivia questions (prepared in advance) - Small prizes or rewards (optional)
Instructions: 1. Divide the students into teams of 3-4 members each. 2. Explain that they will be participating in a Space Trivia Challenge, where they will answer questions related to astronauts and space. 3. Write the following categories on the whiteboard: Astronauts, Space Missions, Planets, and Space Technology. 4. Each team will take turns choosing a category and a point value (e.g., 100, 200, 300, 400, or 500). The higher the point value, the more challenging the question. 5. Read out the corresponding question from the chosen category and point value. 6. The team that buzzes in first gets the opportunity to answer. If they answer correctly, they earn the points; if they answer incorrectly, the question goes to the next team. 7. Keep track of the points on the whiteboard. 8. Continue the game until all the questions have been answered or until a predetermined time limit is reached. 9. The team with the highest score at the end of the game wins. 10. If desired, award small prizes or rewards to the winning team.
Sample Questions: 1. Astronauts (100 points): Who was the first person to walk on the moon? 2. Space Missions (200 points): What was the name of the first space shuttle launched by NASA? 3. Planets (300 points): Which planet is known as the “Red Planet”? 4. Space Technology (400 points): What is the name of the telescope that orbits Earth and captures stunning images of space? 5. Astronauts (500 points): Who holds the record for the longest time spent in space by an astronaut?
Note: Prepare a list of questions in advance, ensuring they are appropriate for the age group and level of English proficiency of the students.
