Warm Up: - Begin the lesson by playing a game of “Two Truths and a Lie.” Each student takes turns sharing three statements about themselves, two of which are true and one that is false. The rest of the class must guess which statement is the lie. This activity will help break the ice and encourage students to start talking and interacting with each other.
Topic Statement: - Introduce the topic of the lesson: “Today, we will be learning how to introduce ourselves and get to know each other better. Building strong relationships and connections with others is important, especially when learning a new language. By the end of this lesson, you will be able to confidently introduce yourself and engage in conversations with your classmates.”
Activity to Make Group Rules: - Divide the students into small groups of 3-4. Provide each group with a large sheet of paper and markers. Instruct them to create a set of group rules that will help foster a positive and inclusive learning environment. Encourage them to discuss and write down rules such as “Respect each other’s opinions,” “Listen actively,” “Speak English only,” etc. After a given time, have each group present their rules to the class and discuss why these rules are important.
Activity to Get to Know Each Other: - Provide each student with a small piece of paper and ask them to write down three interesting facts about themselves. Collect the papers and redistribute them randomly among the students. Instruct the students to walk around the classroom and find the person whose paper they have. Once they find their match, they should introduce themselves and have a short conversation using the three facts as conversation starters. After a few minutes, have the students switch partners and repeat the activity. This will allow students to interact with multiple classmates and learn more about each other.
Activity to Define Students’ Responsibilities: - Divide the class into pairs and provide each pair with a set of responsibility cards. These cards will have different classroom responsibilities written on them, such as “Timekeeper,” “Materials Manager,” “Discussion Leader,” etc. Instruct the pairs to discuss and assign these responsibilities to each other, making sure that both students have an equal share of responsibilities. After a few minutes, have each pair present their assigned responsibilities to the class. This activity will help students understand the importance of taking responsibility and working together as a team.
Closure: - Wrap up the lesson by having a class discussion about the importance of introducing oneself and getting to know others. Ask the students to reflect on what they have learned and how they can apply these skills in their daily lives. Encourage them to continue practicing their English skills by engaging in conversations with their classmates and making an effort to learn more about each other.
