The current event is the ongoing conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians. The three media sources I have chosen are al-Jazeera, BBC, and Fox News.

The Israelis and Palestinians have experienced a history of conflict dating back to the establishment of Israel in 1948. Prior to that, Palestinians had resided in the historic Palestine region for centuries and revolt against the British rule in Palestine dates back to the 1920s. The conflict escalated throughout the 20th century, with major events such as the 1967 6-day war, Palestinian Intifada against Israel in 1987, and Israel’s unilateral withdrawal from Gaza in 2005.

Al-Jazeera is based in Qatar and funded by the Qatari government with a focus on presenting the Palestinian cause from a sympathetic perspective. BBC is based in the UK and is considered to be more impartial, though as a part of a public service broadcaster, it still conveys some British government bias. Fox News is an American conservative media outlet, founded in 1996 by Rupert Murdoch with a distinctly pro-Israeli bias.

Al-Jazeera views the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as predominantly a Palestinian struggle against an oppressive Israeli system which has been dispossessing Palestinians and denying them their right to a state. BBC takes a different approach and puts an emphasis on the need for both sides to cooperate. Meanwhile, Fox News’s bias in sympathizing with Israel is widely criticized, as it blames Palestinian militants for the conflict while whitewashing Israeli actions.

In conclusion, while all three media sources have attempted to give an unbiased perspective on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, their bias still affects their findings. It is therefore important to remember these factors when interpreting their stories.
