Exercise: Number and Classroom Objects Match-Up
Objective: To practice vocabulary related to numbers and classroom objects.
Instructions: 1. Prepare flashcards or small pieces of paper with numbers written on one side (e.g., 1, 2, 3, etc.) and the names of classroom objects written on the other side (e.g., desk, chair, whiteboard, etc.). 2. Divide the class into pairs or small groups. 3. Shuffle the flashcards and distribute them among the pairs/groups, ensuring that each participant receives one number card and one object card. 4. Instruct the participants to keep their cards hidden from others. 5. Explain that they need to find their matching partner by asking questions and giving answers using the vocabulary on their cards. 6. Model an example dialogue with a volunteer student: - Teacher: “I have a number 3. What do you have?” - Student: “I have a whiteboard.” - Teacher: “Great! We are a match!” 7. Encourage the participants to walk around the classroom, approach different partners, and ask questions to find their match. 8. Monitor the activity, providing assistance and feedback as needed. 9. Once all the participants have found their matching partner, gather the class together and ask each pair to introduce themselves and share their matching objects and numbers with the rest of the class. 10. As a follow-up, you can have a class discussion about the different classroom objects and their uses, or you can ask the participants to create sentences using the vocabulary from the exercise.
Variations: - Instead of using flashcards, you can write the numbers and objects on the board and have the participants come up and match them. - For higher-level students, you can add more complex questions and answers, such as using prepositions or adjectives to describe the objects (e.g., “Is your chair next to the desk?” or “Do you have a small whiteboard?”).
