Introduction The earth is full of water. The water cycle helps to keep this water in a balance by moving it around the earth and back to our oceans, lakes, rivers and streams. Let’s take a look at how the water cycle works!

Paragraph 1 The water cycle starts with evaporation. When the sun’s energy heats up the water surfaces, like rivers and lakes, the water turns into vapour and rises up into the sky.

Paragraph 2 At the top of the sky, the vapour rises and cools down. It then turns back into tiny droplets and forms clouds. Water vapour and ice particles within the clouds form clouds.

Paragraph 3 When the clouds get too heavy, it rains. The water droplets fall to the earth’s surface as precipitation. This can be in the form of rain, snow, sleet or hail.

Paragraph 4 Once the water is back on the earth’s surface, it can flow into rivers, oceans and lakes. The water is also absorbed into the ground. This water is known as groundwater.

Paragraph 5 The process then starts all over again. The sun warms up the water surfaces and the cycle keeps going round and round.

Conclusion Now you know how the water cycle works. It is an important process that helps keep the water balance on earth.
