Activity: Leisure Time Collage
Objective: To engage adult learners at an A2 level in a creative activity that explores different leisure activities and encourages conversation and vocabulary development.
Materials needed: - Magazines or printed images of various leisure activities (e.g., sports, hobbies, travel, cooking, reading, etc.) - Scissors - Glue sticks - Large sheets of paper or poster boards - Markers or colored pencils
Instructions: 1. Begin by introducing the topic of leisure and asking the learners to share some of their favorite leisure activities. Write down their responses on the board or a flipchart.
-
Explain that they will be creating a leisure time collage using images from magazines or printed images. Distribute the magazines or printed images to the learners.
-
Instruct the learners to cut out images that represent different leisure activities they enjoy or find interesting. Encourage them to choose a variety of activities to make their collage more diverse.
-
Once they have collected enough images, provide each learner with a large sheet of paper or poster board and a glue stick.
-
Ask the learners to arrange and glue their chosen images onto the paper to create their leisure time collage. They can overlap the images, create different sections, or organize them in any way they prefer.
-
After the collages are complete, have the learners share their creations with the rest of the class. Encourage them to explain why they chose certain images and what they find enjoyable about those leisure activities.
-
Facilitate a group discussion by asking questions such as: - What leisure activities do you have in common with your classmates? - Are there any leisure activities that you would like to try based on your classmates’ collages? - How do leisure activities contribute to your overall well-being and happiness?
-
As a follow-up activity, have the learners write a short paragraph or essay about their favorite leisure activity, using the vocabulary and phrases they have learned during the discussion.
-
Display the collages in the classroom or a common area to serve as a visual reminder of the diverse leisure activities enjoyed by the learners.
Note: This activity can be adapted to an online setting by asking the learners to find and save images digitally, and then create their collages using online tools or by sharing their screens during a video conference.
