STRIVE Model for Vocabulary Instruction:

Step 1: Select the Word The word selected for this vocabulary instruction is “preserve.”

Step 2: Teach the Word Preserve means to protect or keep something in its original state. For example, we preserve food by putting it in the refrigerator to keep it fresh. We also preserve historical artifacts to keep them safe and in good condition for future generations to learn from.

Step 3: Repeat the Word Preserve

Step 4: Illustrate the Word Show pictures of preserved food or historical artifacts to help students visualize the meaning of the word.

Step 5: Verify the Word Ask students to use the word in a sentence or provide an example of something that can be preserved.

Step 6: Explain the Word Explain that preserving something is important because it helps us maintain its original state and protect it from damage or decay.

Step 7: Review the Word Review the meaning of the word and ask students to provide additional examples of things that can be preserved.
