Title: Introduction to Basic MS Word Commands - Save, Open, and Undo

Grade Level: Standard 3

Duration: 45 minutes

Objective: - Students will be able to identify and understand the functions of the Save, Open, and Undo commands in MS Word. - Students will practice using these commands to create, save, open, and edit a simple document.

Materials: - Computers with MS Word installed - Worksheets with simple exercises - Projector or whiteboard for demonstration

Procedure:

  1. Engage (5 minutes):
    • Begin the lesson by asking students if they have ever used a computer before and if they are familiar with MS Word.
    • Discuss the importance of saving their work and being able to undo mistakes while using MS Word.
  2. Explore (10 minutes):
    • Demonstrate the Save command:
      • Open MS Word and create a new document.
      • Explain that the Save command is used to save the document to the computer’s storage.
      • Click on the File tab, select Save As, and choose a location to save the document.
      • Name the document and click Save.
    • Ask students to identify the steps you took to save the document.
  3. Explain (10 minutes):
    • Discuss the Open command:
      • Explain that the Open command is used to retrieve a previously saved document.
      • Click on the File tab, select Open, and navigate to the location where the document was saved.
      • Select the document and click Open.
    • Ask students to identify the steps you took to open the document.
  4. Elaborate (15 minutes):
    • Distribute worksheets with simple exercises that require students to create, save, open, and edit documents.
    • Instruct students to follow the steps provided on the worksheet to complete the exercises.
    • Circulate the classroom to provide assistance and answer any questions.
  5. Evaluate (5 minutes):
    • Review the completed worksheets as a class, checking for understanding of the Save, Open, and Undo commands.
    • Ask students to share their experiences and any challenges they faced while using these commands.
  6. Extend (optional):
    • For students who finish early, encourage them to explore other MS Word commands or create their own documents using the Save, Open, and Undo commands.

Note: Adjust the duration of each section based on the pace and needs of your students.
