Title: Prankster’s Revenge: Creating Pranks Inspired by Mr. and Mrs. Twit

Grade Level: Year Three (8-9 years old) Duration: 20 minutes

Objective: - Students will demonstrate their understanding of pranks played by Mr. and Mrs. Twit in the story. - Students will collaborate to create a mind map of different pranks Mr. Twit could play on Mrs. Twit. - Students will use sentence stems to create their own prank ideas. - Students will share and provide feedback on one prank idea with their peers. - Students will reflect on the activity during the plenary.

Materials: - Copies of the book “The Twits” by Roald Dahl - Objects brought by the teacher (e.g., fake spiders, whoopee cushions, fake vomit, etc.) - Chart paper or whiteboard - Markers - Sentence stems handout - Prank idea sharing slips (prepared in advance)

Procedure:

  1. Introduction (3 minutes) - Begin by briefly recapping the story of Mr. and Mrs. Twit, highlighting the pranks they play on each other. - Explain that today, the students will have the opportunity to create their own prank ideas inspired by the Twits.

  2. Mind Map Activity (7 minutes) - Distribute the objects brought by the teacher to each table. - Instruct the students to work together in their groups to create a mind map of different pranks Mr. Twit could play on Mrs. Twit. - Encourage creativity and remind them to consider the characters’ personalities and interests. - Circulate the room to provide support and guidance as needed.

  3. Sentence Stems Activity (5 minutes) - Divide the class into two groups: the main table and the lower table. - Assign the teaching assistant to work with the lower table. - Provide each group with a sentence stems handout. - Instruct the main table to use the sentence stems to create their own prank ideas independently. - The teaching assistant will guide the lower table in using the sentence stems to create their own sentences, providing scaffolding as necessary.

  4. Prank Idea Sharing (3 minutes) - Instruct the students to choose their favorite prank idea from their group. - Each student should write their chosen prank idea on a sharing slip. - Collect the slips and shuffle them.

  5. Plenary (2 minutes) - Randomly select a few sharing slips and read the prank ideas aloud. - Encourage the students to reflect on the ideas shared and consider incorporating them into their own pranks. - Conclude the lesson by emphasizing the importance of creativity, collaboration, and respect when playing pranks.
