Title: Prank Wars: Getting Revenge on Mrs. Twit

Objective: To engage Year 3 students in a creative and interactive lesson based on the pranks played by Mr. Twit and Mrs. Twit in the story “The Twits.” Students will use their inference skills to come up with their own prank for Mr. Twit to play on Mrs. Twit, while also practicing sentence construction and teamwork.

Materials: - Copies of “The Twits” by Roald Dahl - Objects for inspiration (e.g., fake spiders, whoopee cushions, fake vomit) - Large sheets of paper for mind maps - Word cards with sentence stems (for lower table differentiation) - Storyboard templates (for extension activity) - Whiteboard or chart paper - Markers

Procedure:

  1. Introduction (5 minutes):
    • Greet the students and briefly recap one of the pranks Mrs. Twit played on Mr. Twit from the story.
    • Explain that today, they will be helping Mr. Twit get revenge on Mrs. Twit by coming up with their own prank ideas.
    • Show the objects and explain that they will use them as inspiration for their pranks.
  2. Mind Mapping Activity (10 minutes):
    • Distribute the objects to each table and provide large sheets of paper for mind maps.
    • Instruct the students to work together as a team to brainstorm different ways Mr. Twit could prank Mrs. Twit using the objects and their inference skills.
    • Encourage creativity and remind them to consider Mr. Twit’s character and the types of pranks he usually plays.
    • Circulate the room to provide guidance and support as needed.
  3. Differentiation Activity (5 minutes):
    • Explain to the lower table that they will have a separate activity to support their learning.
    • Provide word cards with sentence stems (e.g., “Mr. Twit could use the [object] to [verb] Mrs. Twit”) and a teaching assistant to assist them.
    • Instruct them to choose a verb from the word cards and use it to create their prank idea, using the objects for inspiration.
  4. Extension Activity (if time permits):
    • For students who finish early, provide storyboard templates.
    • Instruct them to choose their favorite prank idea and create a storyboard illustrating how the prank will happen, including key moments and dialogue.
  5. Sharing and Plenary (5 minutes):
    • Gather the students together and ask each table to share one of their favorite prank ideas from their mind map.
    • Write down the shared ideas on the whiteboard or chart paper.
    • As a plenary activity, ask the students to choose one of the ideas shared by their peers and add it to their own mind map list.
  6. Conclusion:
    • Thank the students for their participation and creativity.
    • Recap the lesson by highlighting the importance of teamwork, inference skills, and creativity in coming up with prank ideas.
    • Encourage the students to continue reading and exploring the story of “The Twits” at home.

Note: The lesson plan can be adjusted based on the specific needs and time constraints of the interview.
