Grade Level: Primary 3 (Aged 7)

Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify and use basic French family words in conversation.

Materials: - Whiteboard or chart paper - Markers - Flashcards with pictures of family members (e.g., mother, father, brother, sister, etc.) - Handout with family word vocabulary - Worksheet with fill-in-the-blank sentences

Procedure:

  1. Introduction (5 minutes):
    • Begin the lesson by asking students if they know any French words related to family members.
    • Write down any responses on the whiteboard or chart paper.
    • Explain that today, they will learn more French family words and how to use them in sentences.
  2. Vocabulary Presentation (10 minutes):
    • Show flashcards with pictures of family members one by one.
    • Ask students to identify each family member in French as you show the flashcards.
    • Write the French word for each family member on the board, along with its English translation.
    • Repeat the words several times, encouraging students to repeat after you.
  3. Vocabulary Practice (10 minutes):
    • Distribute the handout with family word vocabulary to each student.
    • Instruct students to read the words silently and try to memorize them.
    • Conduct a class drill by calling out a family member in English, and students respond by saying the corresponding French word.
  4. Sentence Formation (15 minutes):
    • Explain that they will now learn how to use the family words in sentences.
    • Write a simple sentence on the board, such as “My mother is kind.”
    • Ask students to identify the family member in the sentence and the corresponding French word.
    • Model how to replace the English family word with the French word in the sentence.
    • Provide more examples and encourage students to create their own sentences using the family words.
  5. Worksheet Activity (15 minutes):
    • Distribute the worksheet with fill-in-the-blank sentences to each student.
    • Instruct students to complete the sentences by choosing the correct family word from the word bank.
    • Allow students to work individually or in pairs.
    • After completing the worksheet, review the answers together as a class.
  6. Conclusion (5 minutes):
    • Recap the lesson by asking students to share one new thing they learned about French family words.
    • Encourage students to practice using the family words in conversations with their classmates or at home.
    • Provide positive feedback and praise for their efforts.

Extension Activity (Optional): - Students can create a family tree using pictures or drawings, labeling each family member with the corresponding French word. - Students can also practice their speaking skills by role-playing family conversations using the newly learned vocabulary.

Note: Adjust the duration of each activity based on the pace and needs of your students.
