Slide 1: Title: Introduction to BODMAS
- Welcome to Year 6 Mathematics!
- Today, we will be learning about BODMAS, an important concept in solving mathematical expressions.
- BODMAS stands for Brackets, Orders, Division and Multiplication, and Addition and Subtraction.
- Let’s dive in and understand each component of BODMAS in detail.
Slide 2: Title: Brackets
- Brackets are the first step in solving mathematical expressions using BODMAS.
- They are used to group numbers or operations together.
- We solve the expressions inside the brackets first before moving on to the next step.
- Example: (3 + 4) x 2 = 7 x 2 = 14
Slide 3: Title: Orders
- Orders refer to exponents or powers in mathematical expressions.
- We solve any expressions with exponents or powers after solving the brackets.
- Example: 2^3 = 2 x 2 x 2 = 8
Slide 4: Title: Division and Multiplication
- After solving the brackets and orders, we move on to division and multiplication.
- We solve these operations from left to right.
- Example: 12 ÷ 3 x 2 = 4 x 2 = 8
Slide 5: Title: Addition and Subtraction
- Finally, we solve addition and subtraction after completing the previous steps.
- We solve these operations from left to right as well.
- Example: 5 + 3 - 2 = 8 - 2 = 6
Slide 6: Title: Putting it all together
- Now that we understand each component of BODMAS, let’s solve a complete expression.
- Example: 4 + 3 x (8 - 2) ÷ 2 = 4 + 3 x 6 ÷ 2 = 4 + 18 ÷ 2 = 4 + 9 = 13
Slide 7: Title: Practice Time!
- It’s time to practice what we’ve learned!
- Solve the following expressions using BODMAS:
- 6 + 2 x (4 - 1)
- 10 ÷ 2 + 3 x (8 - 4)
- (5 + 2) x 3 - 4 ÷ 2
Slide 8: Title: Conclusion
- Congratulations! You have successfully learned about BODMAS.
- Remember to always follow the order of operations to solve mathematical expressions correctly.
- Keep practicing and you’ll become a BODMAS expert in no time!
- Thank you for your attention.
