Chapter 2: Santiago sets out to sea alone in his small boat. He reflects on his life as a fisherman and his love for the sea.

Chapter 3: Santiago catches a small fish and uses it as bait to catch a bigger fish. He feels a tug on his line and knows he has caught something big.

Chapter 4: Santiago struggles to reel in the fish, which he believes is a marlin. He is determined to catch it, even though it is pulling him out to sea.

Chapter 5: Santiago battles the fish for three days and nights. He is exhausted and hungry, but refuses to give up.

Chapter 6: Santiago finally kills the fish, but sharks attack it and eat most of it. Santiago is devastated by the loss.

Chapter 7: Santiago returns to shore with the fish’s skeleton. He is greeted by the other fishermen, who are amazed by the size of the skeleton.

Chapter 8: Santiago goes to bed and dreams of lions on the beach. He feels a sense of peace and contentment, knowing that he has proven himself as a skilled fisherman.
