Title: “Exploring Alberta’s History”
Objective: To reinforce knowledge and understanding of Grade 7 Social Studies Chapter 2, Alberta Curriculum.
Materials: - Whiteboard or blackboard - Markers or chalk - Index cards or small pieces of paper - Timer or stopwatch - Prizes (optional)
Instructions: 1. Divide the class into two teams and assign each team a name. 2. Explain the rules of the game: Each team will take turns answering questions related to Chapter 2 of the Alberta Curriculum. The team with the most correct answers wins. 3. Write down a list of questions related to the chapter on the whiteboard or blackboard. Ensure that the questions cover various topics within the chapter. 4. Cut the index cards or small pieces of paper into individual question cards. Write one question on each card. 5. Start the game by flipping a coin to determine which team goes first. 6. The first team selects a player to come forward and draw a question card from a hat or container. 7. The player reads the question aloud and has 30 seconds to answer. If the player answers correctly, their team earns a point. If the player answers incorrectly, the question goes to the opposing team for a chance to steal the point. 8. Repeat the process, alternating between teams, until all the questions have been answered or a predetermined number of rounds have been completed. 9. Keep track of each team’s score on the board. 10. At the end of the game, the team with the most points wins. You can award prizes to the winning team if desired.
Note: To make the game more engaging, you can add a time limit for each team to discuss and answer the questions. Additionally, you can include bonus rounds or challenges to earn extra points, such as acting out historical events or drawing related pictures.
