Casting is the process of converting a value from one data type to another. For example, casting a float to an integer. Physical and software security tasks carried out by a router include firewalls, encryption, authentication, and intrusion detection and prevention. Legislation tasks carried out by a router include enforcing appropriate access policies, following applicable rules and regulations, and adhering to any legal requirements. To convert analogue into digital, a process called analogue-to-digital conversion (ADC) is used. ADC involves transforming analogue signals into a digital format that can be used by a device such as a computer. Metadata is data about data. It describes what a particular piece of data is, where it came from, and when it was created. It can also include information about how the data is used, who has access to it, and who owns it. Benefits of compression include reducing storage requirements and reducing latency when transmitting or streaming media. Compression is also useful for minimizing the amount of network bandwidth and data that must be transmitted. The difference between RAM and ROM is that RAM is volatile memory, meaning it loses its contents when the computer is turned off, while ROM is non-volatile memory, meaning it retains its contents even when the computer is turned off. Secondary storage is data storage which is not directly accessible by the processor and is usually non-volatile. Examples of secondary storage include hard disks, flash memory, optical disks, magnetic tapes, and the cloud. Maintainability is the ability of a system to be maintained and modified to meet changing user or system requirements. Logic errors are errors in a program’s logic, while syntax errors are errors in the program’s syntax (i.e. incorrect grammar).
