Long division is a method of solving for a quotient when dividing two numbers. To perform the rule of long division, the divisor is placed in the top portion of the division sign and the dividend is placed in the bottom portion of the sign. The divisor is then divided by the dividend, and the answer is placed in the top portion of the division sign. The divisor is then multiplied by the answer and the result is subtracted from the dividend in the bottom part of the sign. This process is repeated until the remainder of the dividend is less than the divisor. The answer is then placed in the top portion of the sign, and the remainder is placed in the bottom portion.
