Fat digestion is the process by which the body breaks down dietary fats into smaller molecules that can be absorbed and used for energy or stored for later use. The process begins in the mouth with the release of an enzyme called lipase, which breaks down some of the fats in the food. The majority of fat digestion occurs in the small intestine, where bile from the liver and enzymes from the pancreas help to break down the fats into fatty acids and glycerol. These smaller molecules are then absorbed into the bloodstream and transported to the liver, where they are either used for energy or stored in fat cells for later use.
