Reversing the direction of rotation of an AC polyphase motor can be achieved by swapping the connections of any two of the motor’s phases. This can be done by either physically swapping the wires or by using a reversing switch or relay.

Here are the steps to reverse the direction of rotation of an AC polyphase motor:

  1. Disconnect the power supply to the motor to ensure safety.

  2. Identify the three phases of the motor. These are typically labeled as A, B, and C.

  3. Locate the motor’s terminal box or connection points. This is where the motor’s wires are connected.

  4. Identify the wires connected to each phase. These wires are usually color-coded or labeled.

  5. Choose any two of the motor’s phases to swap. For example, if the motor is currently connected as A-B-C, you can swap phases A and B to reverse the rotation.

  6. Disconnect the wires from the terminal box or connection points. Take note of which wire is connected to which phase.

  7. Swap the wires of the chosen phases. In this example, swap the wires connected to phases A and B.

  8. Reconnect the wires to the terminal box or connection points, ensuring that each wire is securely connected to the correct phase.

  9. Double-check all connections to ensure they are correct and secure.

  10. Restore the power supply to the motor.

By swapping the connections of any two phases, the motor’s magnetic field is reversed, resulting in a reversal of the direction of rotation.
