Objectives: 1. Students will be able to correctly and safely set up an arc welding station. 2. Students will be able to understand and be able to identify the components of an electric arc welding set up. 3. Students will be able to successfully practice different techniques for welding and identify which techniques work best for various tasks. 4. Students will be able to understand and be able to identify the dangers of arc welding.
Materials: -Electric arc welding machine -Welding helmets -Welding torch -Welding cable -Welding rods -Safety glasses -Work gloves -Safety shoes -Metal scraps -Arc Welding Worksheet
Procedure:

Introduce the subject of arc welding and give a brief overview on what arc welding is (10 minutes).

Hand out the arc welding worksheet and explain the components of an electric arc welding set up (15 minutes).

Have the students assemble their welding station and identify the parts on the worksheet (15 minutes).

Demonstrate the different welding processes and techniques and discuss their uses (15 minutes).

Have the students practice each technique on various metal scraps and discuss the differences between the processes (30 minutes).

Go over the safety procedures and hazards of arc welding (25 minutes).

Have the students review their worksheet and correct any mistakes (15 minutes).

Wrap up the lesson by discussing the importance of proper arc welding station set up and safety (10 minutes).
