Objective: -To introduce students to the concept of live theatre reviews -To explain what elements should be included in a theatre review
Materials/Equipment: -Whiteboard/blackboard -Text book that has examples of theatre reviews -Sticky notes -Pens/pencils
Timing: -30 minutes
Procedure:

Introduction: (5 minutes) -Explain the purpose of the lesson is to introduce the concept of live theatre reviews and what elements should be included in one -Explain that they will be exploring examples of reviews and discussing their opinions on them

Exploration of reviews: (15 minutes) -Split the class into small groups and give each group a text book with examples of theatre reviews -Give each group 2 sticky notes, to jot down 2 points they think should be included in a good theatre review -Allow them 10 minutes to read through the reviews and discuss the points that should be included -In their groups, ask one student from each group to share their points with the class

Conclusion: (10 minutes) -Write down the points made on the whiteboard/blackboard -As a class, discuss why these points are important for creating a good theatre review -Explain how these elements will help to inform their own reviews and give a more detailed understanding of the play/performance -Ask the class to come up with one additional element that should be included in a theatre review
Closure: -Explain that in the upcoming lessons they will be exploring these concepts in greater depth, and they will have the chance to apply their understanding to their own reviews. -Thank the students for their participation and question their understanding.
