In 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was issued in response to a request from the Minister of Foreign Affairs to send pledges separately for the 75th anniversary commemoration program. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested a response to domestic questions regarding international law, specifically regarding a dispute between a Japanese business company and a limited liability company in Ethiopia. The Embassy responded to this request and informed the relevant parties of the results.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also requested a letter to be sent to the Minister of Foreign Affairs to obtain evidence from the World Food Program (WFP) for a criminal investigation initiated by the Adama branch in relation to a crime allegedly committed against aid grain. The Greek Embassy also made a request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the Greek Community School, and a response was given after gathering information from the relevant department.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested resources for law-related issues raised by Ethiopia in the 78th United Nations (UN) General Assembly, and a response was prepared and sent accordingly. The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission also made a request regarding the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and a response was provided.
The Financial Security Service responded to a request made by the Financial Security Service to send information to those legally entitled to submit money or property obtained through criminal activities under the guise of legality, in order to reduce their vulnerability to crimes that finance terrorism.
Comments were prepared and sent on a draft document called the “IGAD Statute for the Establishment of Cooperation and Coordination Mechanisms against Transnational Security Threats,” which was prepared by East African Development Institutions.
A report was submitted by our country in response to a request to help implement a resolution proposal called “Release of Women and Children Taken Hostage including those Subsequently Imprisoned, in Armed Conflicts,” prepared by the T.M.D.
The General Secretariat of Interpol prepared and submitted a response to a question regarding a case involving six individuals in Ethiopia.
Regarding the preparation of a current national report on international and continental human rights agreements, a discussion forum involving officials from government institutions and civil society organizations was held. Draft reports were presented in a forum with participants from all regions, and input was collected. Opinions and resources raised in the consultation forums were incorporated, and the draft national report on the African Charter of People’s and People’s Rights was revised.
Additional information was collected from various relevant institutions to complete the national draft report on the implementation of the African Charter of Human and Peoples’ Rights.
