Lesson Plan: “At the Playground”
Objective: - To introduce and practice vocabulary related to the playground - To develop listening and speaking skills in English - To engage in interactive games and activities to reinforce learning
Materials: - Pictures or flashcards of playground equipment (e.g., slide, swing, seesaw, etc.) - A ball - Music player (optional)
Warm-up (5 minutes): 1. Greet the students and ask them if they have ever been to a playground. 2. Show them pictures or flashcards of different playground equipment and ask them to name each one.
Vocabulary Introduction (10 minutes): 1. Display the pictures or flashcards of playground equipment. 2. Pronounce each word clearly and have the students repeat after you. 3. Use gestures or actions to help the students understand the meaning of each word.
Activity 1: Playground Scavenger Hunt (15 minutes): 1. Divide the students into small groups. 2. Give each group a list of playground equipment to find (e.g., slide, swing, seesaw, etc.). 3. Take the students to the playground (if available) or use pictures of the equipment in the classroom. 4. In their groups, students should search for the items on their list and check them off as they find them. 5. After the activity, gather the students and review the vocabulary by asking questions like, “Where did you find the slide?”
Activity 2: Simon Says (10 minutes): 1. Explain the rules of the game “Simon Says” to the students. 2. Choose one student to be “Simon” and the rest will be the players. 3. “Simon” gives commands using the playground vocabulary, such as “Simon says, touch the swing” or “Simon says, jump like you’re on a trampoline.” 4. The players should only follow the commands if “Simon” says “Simon says” before the command. 5. If a player follows a command without “Simon says,” they are out of the game. 6. Continue playing until there is one player left or switch the role of “Simon.”
Activity 3: Ball Toss (10 minutes): 1. Have the students stand in a circle. 2. Start by tossing the ball to one student and saying a playground vocabulary word. 3. The student who catches the ball must say another playground vocabulary word before tossing the ball to another student. 4. Encourage the students to say the words clearly and loudly. 5. Continue the game, increasing the speed of the ball toss if the students are comfortable.
Wrap-up (5 minutes): 1. Review the vocabulary words by showing the pictures or flashcards again. 2. Ask the students to name the equipment and describe how they are used. 3. Thank the students for their participation and enthusiasm.
Extension Activity: - If time allows, you can play a song related to the playground and have the students dance or act out the actions mentioned in the song.
Note: Adapt the activities and vocabulary to suit the needs and abilities of your students.
