Title: Exploring the Present Perfect Tense

Procedure:

  1. Introduction (10 minutes): a. Begin the lesson by asking students if they have ever done something exciting or memorable recently. Encourage them to share their experiences. b. Explain that today, they will learn a new verb tense called the present perfect tense, which is used to talk about actions or events that happened in the past but are still connected to the present.

  2. Presenting the Present Perfect Tense (15 minutes): a. Write a sentence on the board using the present perfect tense, such as “I have eaten pizza before.” b. Ask students to identify the verb tense and explain why it is different from the simple past tense. c. Discuss the structure of the present perfect tense: subject + have/has + past participle of the verb. d. Provide more examples on the board and ask students to identify the verb tense in each sentence.

  3. Guided Practice (15 minutes): a. Distribute sentence strips with incomplete sentences using the present perfect tense. For example, “She ____ her homework.” b. Ask students to complete the sentences by choosing the correct form of the verb from the flashcards provided. c. Review the completed sentences as a class, ensuring students understand the correct usage of the present perfect tense.

  4. Independent Practice (15 minutes): a. Give each student a worksheet with exercises on the present perfect tense. b. Instruct students to complete the exercises individually, using the rules and examples discussed in class. c. Circulate the classroom to provide assistance and answer any questions.

  5. Application Activity (15 minutes): a. Divide the class into pairs or small groups. b. Instruct each group to create a short dialogue or skit using the present perfect tense. Encourage them to incorporate real-life situations or experiences. c. Allow time for groups to practice and then have them perform their dialogues for the class.

  6. Conclusion (5 minutes): a. Recap the main points of the lesson, emphasizing the correct usage of the present perfect tense. b. Encourage students to continue practicing the present perfect tense in their daily conversations and writing.
