Materials: Handouts, visual aids such as counters, drawings, charts, etc.

Procedure

  1. Introduction (10 minutes) a. Introduce the concept of fractions to the students. b. Explain why understanding fractions is important.

  2. Demonstrations (20 minutes) a. Using drawings, counters and other visuals, explain how fractions can be represented. b. Have the students share their own examples. c. Ask questions and check for understanding.

  3. Practice (15 minutes) a. Provide the students with handouts and visuals to help them understand fractions better. b. Walk the students through an example and challenge them to come up with their own fraction problems.

  4. Closing (5 minutes) a. Ask the students to review what they have learned today and leave any questions or concerns for next time. b. Ask them to come up with any new fraction problems that they can solve.

Assessment: A. Formative assessment: Have the students create fraction problems and observe their understanding of the concepts. B. Summative assessment: Quiz them on their understanding of fractions at the end of the lesson.
