Objective: - Students will understand the importance of good manners and how they contribute to positive social interactions. - Students will learn and practice basic manners, such as saying “please” and “thank you,” using polite words, and showing respect to others.
Materials: - Chart paper - Markers - Picture cards depicting different manners - Role-play props (optional) - Manners worksheet (downloaded from an educational website)
Procedure:
- Introduction (10 minutes):
- Begin the lesson by asking students if they know what manners are and why they are important.
- Write their responses on the chart paper.
- Explain that manners are the polite and respectful ways we behave towards others, and they help us build positive relationships.
- Discussion (10 minutes):
- Show picture cards depicting different manners (e.g., saying “please,” sharing, listening attentively, etc.).
- Ask students to identify each manner and explain why it is important.
- Discuss how these manners make others feel and how they contribute to a positive classroom environment.
- Role-play (15 minutes):
- Divide the class into small groups.
- Assign each group a different scenario where good manners are needed (e.g., sharing toys, asking for help, saying sorry, etc.).
- Provide props if available (e.g., toys, hats, etc.) to make the role-play more engaging.
- Allow each group to perform their role-play in front of the class.
- After each performance, discuss the manners displayed and ask the class how they could have improved.
- Manners Worksheet (15 minutes):
- Distribute the manners worksheet to each student.
- Instruct them to complete the worksheet by matching the pictures with the correct manners.
- Walk around the classroom to provide assistance and answer any questions.
- Conclusion (5 minutes):
- Gather the students back together and review the importance of good manners.
- Ask students to share one new thing they learned about manners today.
- Emphasize that practicing good manners can make everyone feel happy and respected.
Extension Activity: - Encourage students to create their own manners booklets, where they draw pictures and write about different manners they have learned. - Have a manners-themed dress-up day, where students come to school dressed as characters who display good manners (e.g., a polite prince/princess, a respectful superhero, etc.).
